Crypto Signal API Permissions: Authority, Secrets and Revocation
Separate reading an account, placing orders and moving assets; use a fictional permission review without supplying live credentials.
Fictional examples, declared assumptions, no connected accounts.
Describe the authority being requested
A signal subscription can be read without granting an application authority over an account. Automation adds a separate relationship: an application may read balances, manage orders or perform other account operations according to the granted permissions. Record the exact requested capability and why the selected workflow requires it. Do not infer safe authority from an attractive trading result or from the fact that a connector appears in a marketplace.
Authentication proves something about a request and credential; it does not establish that the intended action is suitable. Kraken documents signed private requests and key handling, while 3Commas describes a signal-bot interface. Those are original technical references, not evidence that this publication connected accounts or checked a reader's actual settings. Evaluate the precise integration using its current documentation and account-visible permissions. Never provide your secrets to this site.
Complete a fictional permission inventory
Imagine an invented analytics tool that asks to read balances and historical trades. The stated task is explaining existing records, not placing new orders. Its requested trading authority therefore needs a separate justification; withdrawal authority would be a different and particularly consequential power. The completed review records requested, necessary, unresolved and rejected capabilities separately. It does not assume the fictional tool supplies a particular permissions screen.
An invented routing tool has another task: submit orders for a frozen external rule. Reading the rule is insufficient to explain the account authority. Record who can change the rule, which account is selected, permitted instruments, cancellation ownership and how permissions can be revoked. Reject a walkthrough that treats a correctly formed alert as adequate consent for every future operation. The permission review is not a test of the strategy's profitability.
Keep secrets out of evidence packets
A shareable evidence packet should describe permission categories and sanitized identifiers without exposing passwords, private keys, webhook secrets, session tokens or recovery phrases. Screenshots, browser exports and pasted configuration can reveal more than intended. Redact sensitive values before sharing a record and verify that the redaction is actually applied to the exported artifact, not merely hidden by a visual overlay.
Use an unmistakably fictional identifier such as DEMO-NOT-A-KEY for classroom examples, and never represent it as an accepted credential. A public signal message or timestamp payload is not a sensible container for account secrets. Keep account records with the appropriate authorised operator. This publication's worksheets stay in the browser while used and do not create a cloud vault or establish secure key custody. Venue and application logging policies require their own review.
Define revocation and outstanding-state review
Revoking an integration credential is different from cancelling an outstanding order, closing a position, disabling a source alert or ending a paid subscription. A useful runbook identifies the owner and evidence for each action. Do not assume that disconnecting a bot makes an account flat. Preserve actual acknowledgements and outstanding state if a real authorised account review is undertaken.
In the fictional routing case, the reader disables future alerts but an earlier accepted order remains unresolved. The bounded conclusion is that future source messages were disabled; the order state still needs authoritative inspection. Repeatedly issuing commands to discover the state would itself create account risk. The educational example therefore stops at the missing response rather than inventing successful cancellation or an emergency fill. A production integration needs managed ownership and durable records beyond this classroom exercise.
Use evidence rather than a security badge
A product's stated security controls are useful questions to investigate, not blanket proof that every credential, venue or permission arrangement is safe. Distinguish account authentication, software configuration, operational monitoring, custody and market exposure. A correctly limited API connection can still execute a poor strategy; a useful research signal can still arrive through an unsafe impersonator. Neither issue is answered by a blockchain timestamp on a message.
The finished inventory says what authority was requested, what the stated task needs, where each fact came from and which revocation or order-state questions remain. It can conclude that no connection should be made until those fields are resolved. That conclusion preserves optionality without pretending to be a completed penetration test, regulatory assessment or exchange-account audit. The source references explain mechanisms; the example and decision procedure are this publication's original educational work.
| Object | Supplied teaching record | Bounded conclusion |
|---|---|---|
| Analytics example | Read balances/history | Trading authority needs a separate reason |
| Routing example | Create or cancel permitted orders | Source rule and account authority are different |
| Shareable evidence | Permission categories and sanitized IDs | No passwords, keys or recovery phrases |
| Revocation | Disable future requests | Outstanding order and position state still need evidence |
