Crypto Signals: Spot, Linear and Inverse Contract Identity

Use completed fictional mappings to distinguish token holdings, derivative quantities, collateral and settlement before interpreting a signal.

Fictional examples, declared assumptions, no connected accounts.

A ticker is not a complete instrument

A spot pair describes a holding exchanged for its quote asset. A derivative describes contractual exposure with its own quantity and settlement convention. Two products can show similar price charts without being interchangeable. Record the venue product identifier, underlying, quote, settlement and margin asset, contract multiplier, quantity increment and permissions. If the specification is unavailable, the mapping stays incomplete rather than borrowing the most familiar exchange convention.

Kraken publishes pair-specification fields and separate derivatives specifications; these are examples of original venue documentation to inspect, not a recommendation to use that venue. Access may differ by account and jurisdiction. Do not assume that a source-account position, a bot-supported symbol and a reader-accessible market are the same. Compatibility is resolved by the selected current instrument and account route, not by Bitcoin use in a publisher receipt.

Complete a fictional spot mapping

All names and amounts here are invented. SAMPLE/Q is a fictional spot pair quoted in Q per SAMPLE. Buying 10 SAMPLE at 100 Q per token uses 1,000 Q before charges. Selling those same 10 at 102 yields 1,020 Q before charges. The 20 Q difference describes this declared price-only illustration. It does not include exchange charges, custody problems, borrowing or any actual execution. A real fill record would establish whether the prices and quantity occurred.

Now change the message to buy 1,000 without naming the unit. That could describe quote spend, token quantity or another platform input. The previous calculation cannot be reused until the unit is supplied. A successful-looking chart move does not repair an ambiguous original instruction. Keep the original message, ask for clarification and preserve the unresolved state in the review. Choosing a convenient unit after seeing the result would change the experiment.

Do not reuse spot units for a derivative

For an expressly invented linear contract, assume each contract represents 0.1 SAMPLE and price is Q per SAMPLE. One hundred contracts then represent 10 SAMPLE of price exposure under this classroom definition. If the price changes from 100 to 102, the declared linear price contribution is 100 times 0.1 times 2, or 20 Q. Actual contract terms may use other multipliers, settlement and valuation rules; the formula is not a universal derivative calculator.

An inverse product can denominate contractual value and P&L differently, so multiplying a token-price distance by the copied contract quantity is not a general solution. Preserve the original settlement formula instead of extrapolating the classroom linear example. With no formula or multiplier supplied, the bounded answer is unknown. Adding leverage does not resolve instrument identity and does not create more evidence of a fill, profitable rule or suitable account.

Keep collateral, mark and order price separate

Collateral supports an account obligation; notional exposure describes the contract; a mark or index can serve a venue valuation purpose; an executable quote or fill addresses an order. These are different objects even when their displayed numbers are close. Record which price governs the specific question. A last-trade chart crossing a stop illustration does not identify the account liquidation rule, the mark at that time or an actual exit.

A fictional position uses 200 Q of collateral for 1,000 Q of exposure. That ratio alone is not a liquidation-price model. The missing inputs include margin policy, other positions, maintenance requirements, fees and relevant valuation definitions. The exercise ends with those fields unresolved. It does not announce that the account survives a particular percentage move. Multi-collateral valuation introduces additional identity questions rather than permission to equate every asset with one quote unit.

Preserve a mapping through amendments

If the publisher later changes the venue, quote asset or product, save a new mapping version. A message edit can alter the object under review, not just its attractive entry level. Link each order or simulated operation to the instrument definition valid for that version. Where there is no authorised mapping, stop the review at the missing field rather than silently selecting a derivative that resembles the original ticker.

The finished classroom artifact contains the two completed mappings, the ambiguous unit case and the unresolved collateral question. A reader can repeat the arithmetic because the fictional units are stated, while its limitations remain visible. For a real product, replace assumptions with the current original specification and retain its date. A complete venue map is a prerequisite for evaluating an instruction, not a certification of the provider, venue safety or investment merit.
